Initiatives

Arizona schools are at the bottom of the pack for financial support of education and in the middle in national test scores. Some schools deserve praise for this.
I continue to work hard to increase academic success for our students. I propose to continue and add to my initiatives below to help schools improve academics.

Project Momentum, in which Department personnel helped the bottom 5% of schools and 80% are no longer in the bottom 5%;

Sending Department personnel every week to a low-income school and increasing its math scores in one year by 27%, demonstrating  that poor students can learn as well as rich students if properly taught;

Paying for free tutoring to any family in the state who asked for it;

Greatly expanding career technical education for students who are not going to college;

Intensive leadership training for principals because every great school has a great principal.
